The process of a cremation
Cremation usually begins with a funeral service, which is held either before cremation with the coffin or after cremation with the urn. This ceremony often takes place in a cemetery chapel, a church, or an individually chosen room. Music, personal speeches and symbolic acts such as lighting candles or laying down flowers can add a personal touch to the celebration.
In Germany, cremation always takes place in a coffin. This means that the deceased person is always first buried in a coffin, even if the funeral service is only planned after cremation. Cremation is carried out in compliance with strict legal requirements and the highest standards. After cremation, the ashes are kept in an urn, which is later buried in a cemetery, in a columbarium or in natural areas. The burial of the urn can also be combined with a farewell ceremony, during which poems, prayers or personal words are recited.
